Digital content creation – a job for the future

According to Data Reportal “2014 was a landmark year for growth across all things digital.” As Facebook acquired the Oculus VR, a virtual reality technology while Google (IoT) facilitated Net labs with $3.2 billion to start the manufacturing of smart home devices. This shows that the digital market was evolving and already creating spaces for digital creatives to explore further.

Digital content creation can be defined as the process of producing and publishing original, digital media content for the purpose of promoting a product, service, brand, or organisation. Online content creation like any other business is an investment – intellectually and also financially. Content creators take their time to come up with a compelling concept, they put in hours and hours, courage and discipline everyday in order to develop  proper strategies that enable them to keep creating.

We can say that the future of the content creation industry is promising due to factors like  the growing demand for digital content, the emergence of new technologies, the expansion of the global market, the rise of influencer marketing, and the need for diverse and inclusive content.

Business Matters explained that “content creation is a job of the future.” We should all look at the brighter side and keep in mind that, this is a fast-growing business in this time and day and everything that revolves around it contributes a lot in the world we live in now.

Digital content creation is still not well articulated within the Tanzania social media landscape or creative ecosystem, with it you have to do a lot of explaining by simply saying you are a digital creative. The Techpoint Africa have tried to explain the 3 critical points about the creator economy which are Empowerment,Democratization and Collaboration in Africa and how it’s differs from the gig economy in their article.

The article says that Digital content creation is ART and that’s the simplest way of defining it, it’s broader than one could possibly imagine. It’s not just photos or videos, people actually make good money from sharing and documenting their art, a good example is Elsa Majimbo, a 21 years old Kenyan digital creator who was in the Forbes’ Top Creators List in 2022. Just like how most people are good with numbers or science, it’s the same way digital content creators are good at creating and developing digital content. We must also keep in mind that we are now in the 4th industrial revolution where technology is part of our daily lives and most of us use it to make a living.

We are in a place where content creators now make 6 figures and make an impact globally the same way a doctor or a lawyer would.  A good example is Tayo Aina, an independent successful Youtuber, Filmmaker, and Storyteller creating lifestyle, travel, business and real estate content that showcase the beauty of Africa and share the stories of African businesses and brands. We have seen and heard of many content creators making big changes to the world through their art. With creating content, most creators are now able to afford the lifestyle that suits their needs. If we stay open minded this shouldn’t be hard to explain. Allow creators to own their craft, keeping in mind that’s what they do for a living 24/7 instead of just imagining it’s a way of making fast money. A medium source explained it better that “being a content creator is not as easy as it looks.”
